Relationships are beautifully complicated.

You say publicly that your significant other is your best friend, and you truly mean it and believe it. But privately, you struggle to find a rhythm and at times you wonder if you and the love of your life are friends at all. It feels a bit inauthentic, but you’re committed to the relationship and seeking to help it get healthier. You’re wondering a bit if this can be fixed. Conversation gets dull, resentment festers, and in some seasons you notice a bickering tone or passive aggressive behaviors theming your interactions. Annoyance becomes all too common. Quality time suffers or disappears, for any number of reasons including work stress, kids’ schedules dominating your schedules or a lack of emotional vulnerability between you. Am I right?

I point these things out in compassion, not in judgment, to normalize them. To let you know that if you experience these things, you are likely in a normal relationship. Chances are it’s not doomed and not stuck in eternal dullness, it just needs work. Ashley and I are not “experts”, and we consider ourselves to be “leading from a position of learning”. We’ve been blown away at how many people are inspired and encouraged by our relationship, but we have certainly endured tough seasons. We’re grateful to have been challenged to put in the work, we’ve seen tremendous breakthrough, and now we are in a smoother, more enjoyable rhythm, feeling love, joy and peace in our union.

We’d be honored to begin our two-week virtual double date with you and your partner, to explore and invest in your union. Come into this being open minded, and willing to do some rugged but restorative work. Your future together will be brighter because of it.
